INTRODUCING RaspberriPi
BUNDLE BUILDER
Build your own bundle
This project focuses on creating a seamless Raspberry Pi bundle builder that ensures compatibility at every step. When users select a mainboard, all subsequent components across tabs are filtered to be fully compatible with their choice. Designed from scratch, the process involved close collaboration with stakeholders, users, and the Raspberry Pi team to understand requirements and deliver an intuitive, user-centric experience.

Farnell eCommerce Platform Re-design
Full Story of
This project is a comprehensive bundle-building tool designed for users to create compatible Raspberry Pi kits with ease. The unique selling point (USP) of this tool lies in its compatibility assurance: once a user selects a main board, all subsequent product options across tabs (such as Add-on Cards, Cables, Power Supplies, and more) are filtered to ensure they are fully compatible with the selected board.
Key highlights:
-
Conducted stakeholder meetings, user interviews, and collaborated with the Raspberry Pi team to gather detailed requirements and user pain points.
-
Designed the user interface and user experience from scratch, focusing on simplicity, clarity, and seamless interaction.
-
Implemented a step-by-step selection process to guide users intuitively through the bundle creation, ensuring all selected components work perfectly together.
-
Developed a dynamic product compatibility system to prevent errors and improve user confidence.
The design ensures a smooth and efficient shopping experience, tailored to both beginners and professionals in the tech community.

Conducting User Research
The journey of
The research for this project focused on understanding user needs, technical requirements, and business goals to create a simple and effective solution.
Talking to Stakeholders
We had discussions with team members, managers, and business leaders to:
-
Understand the goals of the project, like making it easier for users to find compatible products and improving sales.
-
Identify challenges users face when choosing components.
-
Learn about any technical limitations we needed to consider.
Working with the Raspberry Pi Team
We collaborated with the Raspberry Pi team to:
-
Understand how Raspberry Pi boards and accessories work together.
-
Learn the rules for compatibility between different products.
-
Get their advice on making the system clear and easy to use for all types of users.
Speaking with Users
We interviewed users, including hobbyists, educators, and engineers, to:
-
Find out how they currently choose Raspberry Pi components.
-
Understand their difficulties with finding compatible products.
-
Learn what features they want in a bundle builder.
Checking Competitors
We studied similar tools from other websites to see:
-
What worked well and what didn’t in their systems.
-
How they showed compatibility between products.
-
Features that made their tools easy to use.
Testing Prototypes
-
Created simple designs and tested them with users.
-
Asked for feedback to improve navigation and make the tool more user-friendly.
-
Made changes based on user feedback to ensure the system was easy to understand.
Looking at Data
-
Reviewed customer complaints and common issues, like incompatible purchases.
-
Looked at popular product combinations to make the tool smarter.
This research helped us design a system that made it easy for users to find compatible Raspberry Pi components, saving them time and reducing mistakes.

Wireframes
Sketching the Future
Wireframing was a crucial step in visualizing the redesigned Farnell experience. Collaborating closely with product owners, stakeholders, and fellow designers, we transformed research insights into structured layouts that prioritized user needs. These wireframes served as the blueprint for seamless navigation, optimized workflows, and intuitive interactions, ensuring every element was aligned with the project’s goals.

Crafting a Scalable Design System
Building the Blueprint
We developed a unified design system for Farnell’s platform, featuring reusable components, consistent typography, and accessible color palettes. This streamlined collaboration across teams and ensured a cohesive, user-friendly experience throughout the platform.

Visual Design
Bringing Ideas to Life
The visual design of the Raspberry Pi Bundle Builder was kept simple and easy to use. The layout focused on showing compatible products clearly, with tabs for each product category and a summary panel to display selected items. Clear fonts, easy-to-understand buttons, and a neat grid layout made navigation smooth. Colors and icons highlighted product availability and compatibility, helping users make quick and confident choices. The design made the process of selecting products simple and visually clear.

Visual designs for user flow
In detail
This project involved designing an intuitive app interface for building Raspberry Pi bundles. The app allows users to select a main board and ensures that all additional components, such as add-on modules, cables, and power supplies, are fully compatible. Key features include category-based navigation, compatibility filtering, a clear bundle summary, and a smooth checkout process. The design focuses on simplicity and accessibility, ensuring users can easily create customized bundles without technical confusion.
